The purpose of this Practice Note is to provide good practice guidance on the design and construction of Farm Dairy Effluent (FDE) Ponds. The information is relevant for farm owners and operators, designers, constructors and consenting authorities.
There is a growing need to manage the risks associated with effluent storage and leakage, as more farmers have storage provided in line with good farming practice.
DairyNZ has commissioned a review of IPENZ 21 to ensure the guidance provided for pond leakage testing is up to date and in line with current industry needs.
This document was formed after several rounds of consultation and engagement with the industry.
The document will remain open for feedback until March 2025 when it will be adopted.
