Dairy farmers are urged to get to know their candidates vying for a position on the DairyNZ Board when voting opens next month.

Electionz.com has today confirmed two positions on DairyNZ’s Board of Directors attracted three nominations, meaning an election will now take place.

Voting is set to open on September 19, with an election result announced at the DairyNZ Annual General Meeting in Canterbury on Tuesday October 22.

The 2024 DairyNZ Board of Directors candidates are:

  • Jacqueline Rowarth, Tirau
  • Richard McIntyre, Levin
  • Kylie Leonard, Taupō

As DairyNZ chair Jim van der Poel said when nominations opened: “It is an exciting time to be involved with DairyNZ, as our new strategy sharpens our focus on the future, to better meet the needs of farmers and our sector.”

Dairy farmer levy payers will receive a vote pack including profiles of the candidates in the mail from September 19 and can vote online or by post. Farmers have until 12 noon Thursday, October 17 to cast their votes.

DairyNZ’s Board consists of five farmer-elected directors and three board-appointed directors. This year, Jim van der Poel is retiring, and Jacqueline Rowarth is retiring by rotation and is re-standing.

No nominations were received for a Directors’ Remuneration Committee position, which reviews and recommends changes to directors’ payments and other benefits each year.  The DairyNZ Board will determine how this vacancy will be filled.

More information on the candidates and the voting process will be available at dairynz.co.nz/agm
