Roshean has over ten years’ research experience. With skills and expertise in soil and plant science, her research on nitrate leaching is highly relevant to nutrient management and is frequently cited for its insights into plantain’s ability to reduce nitrate leaching losses.

“With research you are on the edge of knowledge. It’s about curiosity, when you find one answer it creates a whole lot more questions, and I love that no two days are the same”, says Roshean.

Driven by her passion for the environment and the agricultural sector, Roshean loves working with farmers. Although she did not grow up on a farm, she has gained valuable dairy farm experience and has always loved the outdoors and spending time on farms.

Over the years, Roshean has been an active participant in agricultural community groups such as Young Farmers and NZIPIM, which have allowed her to connect with a wide range of agricultural professionals. In 2022, she was awarded the Service to Young Farmers Award, and in 2021 she was a national finalist in the FMG Young Farmer of the Year.

Roshean completed her PhD at Lincoln University in 2017. She then worked as a farm environment consultant for two and a half years before joining the team at DairyNZ in 2019.
