Guy Michaels
Regional Manager - Lower South Island
Regional Manager
Guy focuses on connecting his team with the people, tools, information and resources they need to support farmers effectively and bring DairyNZ’s strategy to life.
“DairyNZ is an independent organisation bringing good science and on-farm support to farmers, to assist them now, and with their future. We’re not here to drive a sale or commission, which makes our teams stand out from most other visitors up a tanker track.
“I love seeing my team grow in skillset and in confidence – and hopefully my role makes their job easier rather than harder! I’m pretty proud of them: their capability and experience are impressive. I’m also dedicated to helping them bring farmers and others in the sector together.
“We want to be aware of what others are working on, so we can react more quickly to the challenges ahead, and what’s happening now. Our events also ensure farmers get value from their time off-farm. It’s great to see the value and appreciation from a conversation or an event.”
Guy also stepped out of his DairyNZ role for a couple of seasons along the way, to take on the business manager role at the Southern Dairy Hub.
“I helped out there for its first two seasons post-conversion. It was a great opportunity to connect research with a very complex farm system under a complicated governance model. I’m happy to be back in the fold though: wearing the DairyNZ logo is a privilege.
“It gives us the chance to provide extra value for a farmer’s levy spend, which is a great driver behind our work. A love for farming also drives the passion.”
